Dig it kats and kittens: an update on what’s going on behind the scenes.
Ok so I haven’t released anything in a while, no news there. But I’ve been doing all sorts of other things.
1. Been slaving away on the website. I had it how I liked, then figured out a new thing I could do with CSS - mainly change the way it prints - so I had to redo things. I’m pretty sure I’ve got it how I want so the rest is actually putting content up. Heh.
2. As you may know, I’m planning on putting up extensive machinima tutorials. I put up the general beginner guide here. Let me know what you think :)
3. When the sheep changed over to onrez from slboutique, they changed the way images were handled so all of my adds were completly fucked up. I had taken everything down abruptly but didn’t have the time to redo the large amount of them. That is now done and my storefont is setup and completly updated. You can see that here: shop.onrez.com/Luth_Brodie>. I will be dilligent from now on and put all new products up there on the day I release.
4. Yes I hate the sheep, so why am I putting my items up there? Good projects run by bad corporations doesn’t make the idea bad. Shopping online is a damn good idea. I use it all the time to find certain things, then go to the person’s shop in world. SLEX might have more items and give me more sales, but I hate shopping there. You have to shift through a shitload of crap to find anything decent which is the same reason why I hate shopping in world. Since the beginning of these two sites, it’s always been SLboutique (onrez) that seemed to have easier access to the top quality stuff.
The next issue is the sheep browser, a big topic of the week. There is a lot going around about how the sheep don’t have to show the LL searches (places and classifieds) and the clear button to onrez. According to the sheep, they will be linking to the LL searches at the beginning but the same post also said their own search is not working right so it’ll be out. Does that mean when they get theirs working again, they will hide or disconnect from the classifieds? Who knows. The movers and shakers at the sheep are out for themselves and their clients while hiding behing the PR mask of “for the community.” Yes search needs to be fixed, but I do not trust the sheep to do it. At all. But like everything else in the mutinational corporate world, the lowly citizens have no sway. If thousands of noobs are going to be hitting the servers after the CSI episode and using the sheep browser, then really the only thing I can do as a business woman is to put my items on onrez. It costs me nothing and the sheep don’t get a cut of the profits - unlike SLEX - so I really see no harm.
In the end, I still distrust the sheep as a corporation. And I’m fucking sick and tired of blind sheep followers who are so nasty to anyone who ever questions them. Do I like the CSI thing? I dunno. More people in SL = good thing, but are they going to be able to find the rest of the grid or stay sequestered in the sheep sims?
While I do have a highbrow taste in media, I have a special place in my heart for procedural cop shows. CSI is at the bottom of the list because of the shitty flashy editing, but I grit my teeth through it and watch it. I grew up with law and order and it is still my favourite with Bones next and Criminal Minds leading a close third. I have just had this strange fasination with the process of figuring out the who, how and why of murders. Even so much so that the year between finishing my 2nd degree and starting my 3rd, profiling and forensics was in the top 5 choices. That was alongside archeology and architecture, with the final decision being 3d modeling and animation. Granted as I’ve said before, it had oddly turned to film and then I’m back doing the 3d stuff in SL.
5. I’ve spent the past three weeks mostly doing a personal video project for my family. That’s done so I can focus more on on SL stuff.
6. Tomorrow is the 3rd out 5 classes that I’m taking for Maya. It’s a grooling 7 hour course, but I’m learning quite a bit. While I could have figured it out on my own, finding the time to actually do that was just not happening. This way I figure since I’ve paid, I better actually go. So, it’s working out for the best.
7. Got the scripts I needed for the furniture made. It only took me hiring 4 different scripters until I found one who would actually finish it. That was a nightmare over the past year. Soon I’ll be working with sculpties and making some fantastic animations for the furniture. Fun Fun.
8. Been beta testing a very fun game. Once the NDA has been lifted, I’ll write up a review.
9. Been having some massive DSL issues lately. My connection kept dropping so I’d have to restart the router, get about 5 min of online time, then the connection would drop. Super annoying, but luckily it’s fixed now.
That’s all I can think of. I’m pretty sure what’s next on the list of things to do is some AO sets, my commercial, website and then the machinima review site. *sigh* it never seems to end.
